Privacy Policy

This notice describes how Sulphur Mountain Journal (“we”, “us”, “our”) handles information when you open https://sulphur-mountain.ca (the “Site”). It is written so a visitor, a privacy commissioner, or an advertising-platform reviewer — including a Google Ads landing-page reviewer — can see who publishes the journal, what is collected, why, and how to reach us. It is not a ticket contract and it is not the privacy statement of Pursuit, Banff Gondola, or any other operator.

2. What this policy covers

It covers the editorial pages on this domain. It does not cover websites, booking engines, or payment processors you may open after you leave. We never ask for payment-card numbers on these pages and we do not run a checkout.

3. Information we receive

3.1 What you send on purpose

If you email [email protected] or use the contact form, we receive the name, address, and text you type, together with the time of the message. Please do not send card numbers, passports, or booking codes. If they arrive by accident we delete them.

3.2 What the server records

Loading a page typically leaves an ordinary log line: IP address (including an address forwarded by Cloudflare when the domain is proxied); date and time; requested path; referring URL; status code; browser user-agent; a coarse country derived from IP; and the strictly necessary cookies listed in the Cookie Policy. We do not sell log files.

3.3 What we do not collect here

We do not collect payment cards, government ID, precise GPS, or account passwords. There is no customer login. We do not knowingly take information from children under 13. There is no shopping cart.

4. Cookies and similar technology

On these editorial pages we set a small first-party preference cookie after you dismiss the cookie banner. We do not place Google Ads, Google Analytics, Floodlight, Meta Pixel, TikTok, or similar tags on this journal. You may still arrive after clicking an advertisement; that click is handled by the advertising network under its own rules. We may see a standard referrer or a campaign parameter such as gclid or utm_source. We do not use those parameters to retarget you on this Site. The table is on the Cookie Policy.

5. Why we use information

to serve the pages and keep the host reasonably secure;
to answer editorial mail and fix published mistakes;
to see, in aggregate, which URLs are requested;
to meet a legal duty or a lawful request;
to show advertising platforms and regulators how the landing page is run.

We do not sell personal information. We do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not use automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.

6. Legal bases

Canada (PIPEDA and comparable provincial statutes, including Quebec Law 25 where it applies): we use the information above for the reasonable purposes of publishing a journal, answering mail, and protecting the service.

GDPR / UK GDPR where those laws apply: legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) for hosting and security; your request (Art. 6(1)(b)) when you write to us; legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) if a competent authority issues a lawful order; consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) only if we later add an optional non-essential cookie, which we do not do now.

7. Who else may see information

Hosting, DNS, TLS, and security vendors (for example a VPS provider and, when the name is proxied, Cloudflare); email infrastructure if we reply; advisers or authorities when the law requires it; and a successor if the journal is transferred, under this notice or a notice we will post first. We do not forward your contact-form text to Pursuit or any gondola operator.

8. Transfers outside Canada

The publisher is in Canada. Hosts, DNS, or security vendors may process technical data in Canada, the United States, the European Union, or other countries where they operate. Where the GDPR applies, those transfers rest on the vendor’s appropriate safeguards (for example Standard Contractual Clauses) or an adequacy decision.

9. How long we keep it

server and security logs: usually up to 30 days, longer only if an incident needs a copy;
contact-form and email: up to 12 months after the last reply, unless you ask us to delete sooner and no legal hold applies;
the site_pref cookie: up to 12 months, or until you clear it in the browser.

10. Children

The journal is written for adults planning travel. It is not aimed at children under 13. If you think a child sent us information, write to [email protected] and we will erase it.

11. Your rights

Depending on the law that applies, you may ask us to access, correct, delete, or export personal information we hold, or to restrict or object to certain processing. Send the request to [email protected]. We may need to confirm that the request comes from you.

You may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca), a provincial commissioner, an EEA authority, or the UK ICO. Residents of California and other US states with consumer-privacy laws: we do not sell or share personal information as those statutes define those terms, and we do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics.

12. Advertising traffic, including Google Ads

Some readers reach this Site after an advertisement. If that happens: the advertising network (for example Google) is a separate controller for the ad click and for cookies it sets on its own domains; we do not run a Google Ads tag, conversion linker, Floodlight tag, or remarketing tag on these editorial pages; we do not upload customer lists to advertising platforms. This Policy, the Cookie Policy, the Terms of Use, and the Contact page exist so a reviewer can identify the publisher, the collection practices, and a working contact method. The landing page is an editorial journal. It does not collect payment details, does not offer a booking form, and does not display “buy” or “book now” controls. Ticket sales, if any, happen only on channels run by the official operator — never here.

13. Security

We use HTTPS, restricted server access, and ordinary hosting hygiene. No transmission is perfectly safe. Do not send secrets to an editorial inbox.

14. Links away from the journal

Editorial links are context, not endorsements. Those destinations have their own policies. We do not load third-party advertising scripts on these pages.

15. Updates

If this notice changes we will refresh the date at the top. A material change (for example if we ever added analytics cookies) would also get a short note on the Site.
